Choosing the Perfect Nonstick Cookware Set

Nov 01, 2021

I recently had to replace my nonstick cookware set because I had them for 10 years and I’m pretty sure they weren’t safe to cook on anymore, I just hadn’t gotten around to it. I decided to ask my Instagram followers if they had any recommendations, and boy did they come through! I got a ton of messages and so many of my followers were kind enough to take the time to share the pros and cons of the sets they had purchased.

I’m not going to mention all of the brands that people sent me because there’s a lot of them. But I will list the ones that were recommended most and explain why I ultimately decided on the cookware set that I did.

1. Stainless Steel

Quite a few people suggested that I avoid nonstick and go with stainless steel because it’s safer than nonstick. The reason I didn’t want to go with stainless steel is because I like things to be quick and easy when cooking. There’s a bit of a learning curve with stainless steel and food...

Transitioning from Dirty to Clean Products

Sep 23, 2020

When using products to clean my home or choosing cosmetics, I’ve never been overly concerned about the chemicals that I was using. As long as it was effective, that’s all that mattered to me. Well recently, things have changed and I have started to become aware of the need to transition to cleaner products and I am now learning more about it.

One of the first things I started with was essential oils. I had purchased oils on Amazon and after posting about it on my Instagram stories, some of my followers messaged me saying that I should be careful with the types of essential oils that I am using. A lot of them are not pure and could be harmful. A former work colleague of mine also contacted me and provided me with a wealth of information about DoTERRA. I did some more research and decided to return the oils I had purchased from Amazon and switched over to DoTERRA. I must admit that there is definitely a difference between the essential oils, I’m so glad I switched...

5 Things You Can Do Without when Living in a Small Space

Aug 12, 2020

Over the years our family grew but our space didn’t. Though we’re now a family of 5, we continue to live in a small space and as result, we’ve had to remove certain things in order for the space to function better for our family. The following are 5 things that we’ve managed to live without.

1. A coffee table

Since we have young children, a coffee table actually acts as a hazard in our small space. We removed ours years ago and just left the space open so that our kids have space to play. My husband Kiran also uses the open space in the living room for his at-home workouts. That's why we have an extra-large yoga mat instead of a rug. It's perfect for working out, to use as a playmat and it's a neutral colour that's easy to clean!

2. A dining table

Our condo doesn’t have space for a dining area, so we also got rid of our table and chairs when we moved in. We did have stools so that we could sit at our island, but our youngest child would always climb...

How to Deep Clean Your Dishwasher

Jul 15, 2020

A few years ago our dishwasher wasn't working properly so we hired a plumber to come take a look at it. Turns out that the drain was clogged because we weren't maintaining our dishwasher properly. He explained how we should maintain our dishwasher and since then, we haven't had any issues. In today's post, I'll be explaining the steps that I follow when deep cleaning our dishwasher. However, I recommend that you consult your manual and follow the maintenance instructions included.

I deep clean our dishwasher once a month. If you want to know my entire cleaning and home maintenance schedule and also learn how I keep track of everything that needs to be done around the house, sign up for my Clear the Clutter Membership. Not only will I give you my home maintenance and cleaning schedule, but we'll also create one that's customized for your home since it isn't one size fits all when it comes to cleaning schedules. In this membership, I'll also help you declutter and organize your entire...

How I Wash My Pillows

Jul 01, 2020

A little while back I posted an Instagram story where I was washing my pillows and got quite a few messages about it, so I figured I'd do a short blog post on how I wash my pillows.

It's important to wash your pillows a couple of times a year because over time they will accumulate things like dirt, oil, dust mites, saliva, sweat and bacteria. I wash our pillows every 4 months. In my Clear the Clutter Membership I share my entire cleaning and home maintenance schedule and explain how I keep track of everything that needs to get done around the house. If you're interested in learning more about that and how to declutter and organize your entire home step-by-step, make sure to sign up for my membership.

These are the pillows that I have and I've found that they're very easy to maintain. All I do is place two pillows at a time in the washer. I recently transitioned to cleaner products and use one scoop of Nellie's Laundry Soda to wash my pillows. I also like to fill the fabric softener...

Top 5 Kitchen Organization Tips

May 28, 2020

When we lived in a condo, we had a fairly small kitchen, so I had to be quite organized to make sure that it functioned effectively for our family.  The following are 5 tips that will help you keep your kitchen perfectly organized.

1.  Declutter

My number one tip would be to declutter. Over time we accumulate so many things in our kitchens that we never use. It’s so important that you discard food from your fridge, freezer and pantry that’s taking up valuable space but will never be consumed. Once you’ve gone through all of your food, you then need to start getting rid of all the pots, pans, utensils, dishes, gadgets dishcloths, mugs etc. that you don’t love or use regularly. I promise you, you will never miss that egg cracker. Yes, I actually bought a gadget years ago to help me crack eggs.

Now I only keep what I value in my kitchen. I did feel guilty when I started to declutter my kitchen and realized how much money I wasted on things I never use....

5 Reasons Why It’s So Important to Declutter

Feb 13, 2020

I felt the need to write this post because on numerous occasions people have told me that they have a lot of space in their homes, so they don’t need to declutter. I, on the other hand, lived in a small condo and now live in a fairly small house, therefore it’s essential that I minimize.

It is true that there’s more of a need for me to declutter than someone with a larger home, but the benefits of decluttering apply to everyone. Whether you live in a mansion or an apartment, here are 5 reasons you should consider decluttering:

1. Your home will look better

Once you remove all of the junk cluttering up your home, it’ll look so much better. Your home will be cleaner, the air will circulate better and it won’t feel as stuffy. You can also display your most beautiful pieces of artwork, furniture and decor, making the space look a lot nicer. Even when it comes to closets, if you have more space, you can space out your hangers, display your shoes and handbags...

How to Clean Shower Grout Stains

Jan 23, 2020

Keeping the grout between your shower tiles clean can be difficult, especially if you don't do it regularly. Here's what you can do to remove the stains depending on how stubborn they are.

Step 1: Vinegar

Spray the tiles and grout with white vinegar and scrub the area using a grout brush or a toothbrush.

Step 2: Baking Soda

Make a paste with some baking soda and water. Apply this paste to the grout and scrub again.

Step 3: More Vinegar

Spray the area with more vinegar and allow it to bubble. Then continue to scrub with a grout brush or toothbrush.

Step 4: Hydrogen Peroxide

If the grout is still stained, spray it with hydrogen peroxide

Step 5: Toilet Bowl Cleaner

I learned this tip from the YouTube channel Do It On A Dime. This will only be necessary if you have very stubborn stains. Apply a toilet bowl cleaner with bleach to the grout and allow it to sit for a few hours. You can also spray the grout with chlorine bleach. Make sure your bathroom fan is on and try...

Decluttering 101: How to know whether to keep it or toss it

Jan 16, 2020

In order to have an organized home, decluttering is an essential step. But it can be a difficult process because there are many reasons why we feel we need to hold on to stuff. We might feel guilty because of the money that we spent on the item. Or perhaps it was given to us as a gift and therefore we feel like we have to keep it. We'll tell ourselves that we may be able to use it one day or that we'll eventually sell it. Unfortunately, this is why most attempts to get organized end up failing, you simply cannot organize clutter. Here's what you can do to help you with the decluttering process.

Remove everything

When decluttering, it's important to remove everything from the closets, drawers and cupboards so that you can see everything that you have. You also want to be able to hold every piece when deciding what to do with it.  If you're planning to declutter your clothing, then make a big pile of all of your clothes on your bed or on the floor. If you're decluttering books,...

3 Furniture Pieces that Weren't Ideal for My Small Space

Jan 09, 2020

I've been living in a small space for almost two decades now, so I've learned which furniture pieces work well in a small space and which ones aren't the greatest. Whenever I chose furniture I did try to choose pieces that were space-saving or had some kind of storage element, but it still didn't always work out as planned. Today I wanted to share which pieces weren't the best so that you don't make the same mistakes I did.

1. Folding table

This table could work in some small spaces, but it's not ideal for all small spaces. This table is from Ikea and it's great because it doesn't have a large footprint, yet when it's open, it provides a large tabletop. There are also small drawers that provide extra storage. The problem with this table is that it's very heavy, so you can't move it around. When you live in a small space, it's nice to have furniture that can easily be moved. So what we ended up doing was we put the table on casters so that we could roll it around. The issue with this...
