How Mydoh has simplified my life!

Aug 18, 2022

What’s Mydoh?

Our family loves using Mydoh! It’s a money management app, with a reloadable Smart Cash Card for kids and teens. It’s a quick and easy way for parents to give their kids an allowance. Mydoh is great because parents have complete oversight of earnings and how their kids spend their money.

How we use it

Isha and I came up with a list of tasks that she needs to complete every day. Then before bed, we can easily check off the ones she’s completed. Every Saturday is pay day and the money automatically gets transferred into her Mydoh account and Smart Cash Card.

If there’s something that we’d like her to work on or if there’s a savings goal that she wants to achieve, it can be easily added in the Mydoh app. It’s simple to delete any tasks that no longer apply as well. For example, it use to be Isha’s job to put away all of the hats, mitts and scarves when we were taking ski lessons. Once the lessons ended, I was able...

Why I Wake Up At 3 a.m. (4:30 a.m. Now)

Feb 10, 2022

UPDATE: I've moved my wakeup time to 4:30 a.m. I explain why in Clear the Clutter.

If you follow me on Instagram, then you'll know that my husband Kiran and I have been waking up at 3 a.m. during the week. I've been asked a lot of questions about this and decided to write a blog post that answers those questions.

How do you wake up so early?

After having children, I quickly learned the necessity of waking up before them in order to get organized and be ready to start the day on the right foot. My kids are usually up around 6:30 a.m., so I would wake up around 6 a.m.

Prior to having children, I would usually hit snooze on my alarm clock multiple times and often found myself scrambling in the morning. I am not a morning person, but since my kids are early risers, I had to train myself to wake up early.

A little while back I came across Robin Sharma’s book, The 5AM Club and was inspired to start waking up a little earlier - 5 a.m. instead of 6 a.m. I highly recommend that you...

NEW Freezer Smoothie Packs

Nov 24, 2021

One of my most popular blog posts is my post on Make Ahead Smoothie Packs. And to be honest, I understand why it’s such a popular post - this entire smoothie system saves me so much time and ensures that my family and I are having something healthy every single day. I’ve made some changes since I wrote that post and figured I’d include the updates in this post.

The reason I like to create these smoothie packs is because my smoothies contain a lot of ingredients and if I were to pull them out every single day, it would take forever to make a smoothie and I’d be messing up my kitchen every time. This would result in me giving up on this healthy habit. Instead, I just make 12 of them at once and since we only have smoothies Monday to Friday, I only have to do this a couple times per month.

I like to use reusable large silicon freezer bags because they’re better for the environment than using disposable freezer bags. They’re also durable and easy to...

Choosing the Perfect Nonstick Cookware Set

Nov 01, 2021

I recently had to replace my nonstick cookware set because I had them for 10 years and I’m pretty sure they weren’t safe to cook on anymore, I just hadn’t gotten around to it. I decided to ask my Instagram followers if they had any recommendations, and boy did they come through! I got a ton of messages and so many of my followers were kind enough to take the time to share the pros and cons of the sets they had purchased.

I’m not going to mention all of the brands that people sent me because there’s a lot of them. But I will list the ones that were recommended most and explain why I ultimately decided on the cookware set that I did.

1. Stainless Steel

Quite a few people suggested that I avoid nonstick and go with stainless steel because it’s safer than nonstick. The reason I didn’t want to go with stainless steel is because I like things to be quick and easy when cooking. There’s a bit of a learning curve with stainless steel and food...

My NEW Dermatologist Recommended Morning Skincare Routine

Oct 22, 2020

A few months ago I updated my skincare routine and when I tell you where I got these skincare recommendations from, you’re probably going to stop reading this post. But please, DON’T! Give it a chance, I promise you won’t regret it.

The skincare advice that I’ve tested out for months now, came from TikTok! If you’re already on TikTok then you’ve probably seen these videos. They’re made by dermatologists and they’re awesome! They’re quick, to the point and they tell you what products you should and shouldn’t use. The way TikTok works is, the more you watch a certain type of video, the more similar ones get recommended to you. Since I was watching these skincare ones so much, I kept seeing more and more of them. I started to notice that a lot of these dermatologists were recommending the same products. They were also recommending a lot of drugstore products that are clean and don’t contain toxic chemicals and...

Transitioning from Dirty to Clean Products

Sep 23, 2020

When using products to clean my home or choosing cosmetics, I’ve never been overly concerned about the chemicals that I was using. As long as it was effective, that’s all that mattered to me. Well recently, things have changed and I have started to become aware of the need to transition to cleaner products and I am now learning more about it.

One of the first things I started with was essential oils. I had purchased oils on Amazon and after posting about it on my Instagram stories, some of my followers messaged me saying that I should be careful with the types of essential oils that I am using. A lot of them are not pure and could be harmful. A former work colleague of mine also contacted me and provided me with a wealth of information about DoTERRA. I did some more research and decided to return the oils I had purchased from Amazon and switched over to DoTERRA. I must admit that there is definitely a difference between the essential oils, I’m so glad I switched...

5 Things You Can Do Without when Living in a Small Space

Aug 12, 2020

Over the years our family grew but our space didn’t. Though we’re now a family of 5, we continue to live in a small space and as result, we’ve had to remove certain things in order for the space to function better for our family. The following are 5 things that we’ve managed to live without.

1. A coffee table

Since we have young children, a coffee table actually acts as a hazard in our small space. We removed ours years ago and just left the space open so that our kids have space to play. My husband Kiran also uses the open space in the living room for his at-home workouts. That's why we have an extra-large yoga mat instead of a rug. It's perfect for working out, to use as a playmat and it's a neutral colour that's easy to clean!

2. A dining table

Our condo doesn’t have space for a dining area, so we also got rid of our table and chairs when we moved in. We did have stools so that we could sit at our island, but our youngest child would always climb...

Top 4 Things I Wish I Did Before I Had Kids

Jul 29, 2020

If you don't have any children yet, then this blog post is for you! I know that when my kids are in their 20's, I'll be sharing this advice with them. I don't know if they'll take my advice, but I'll give it a shot.

When I was in my 20's I thought I was the busiest person in the world. I was in school full-time, working part-time and participated in extra-curricular activities. But now that I'm a working mother of 4, I realize that I wasn't as busy then as I thought I was. There was so much more I could have done and really wish I had because it would have greatly benefited me today.

1. Read

I was never fond of reading and only recently did I start to get into audiobooks. I rarely have time to actually read physical books, but I can listen to books when doing mundane tasks like commuting, cooking or cleaning. So my first tip would be to set aside time to read more books. Personally I like non-fiction, personal development books. I love to learn tips and strategies that will help me...

How to Deep Clean Your Dishwasher

Jul 15, 2020

A few years ago our dishwasher wasn't working properly so we hired a plumber to come take a look at it. Turns out that the drain was clogged because we weren't maintaining our dishwasher properly. He explained how we should maintain our dishwasher and since then, we haven't had any issues. In today's post, I'll be explaining the steps that I follow when deep cleaning our dishwasher. However, I recommend that you consult your manual and follow the maintenance instructions included.

I deep clean our dishwasher once a month. If you want to know my entire cleaning and home maintenance schedule and also learn how I keep track of everything that needs to be done around the house, sign up for my Clear the Clutter Membership. Not only will I give you my home maintenance and cleaning schedule, but we'll also create one that's customized for your home since it isn't one size fits all when it comes to cleaning schedules. How I Wash My Pillows

Jul 01, 2020

A little while back I posted an Instagram story where I was washing my pillows and got quite a few messages about it, so I figured I'd do a short blog post on how I wash my pillows.

It's important to wash your pillows a couple of times a year because over time they will accumulate things like dirt, oil, dust mites, saliva, sweat and bacteria. I wash our pillows every 4 months. In my Clear the Clutter Membership I share my entire cleaning and home maintenance schedule and explain how I keep track of everything that needs to get done around the house. If you're interested in learning more about that and how to declutter and organize your entire home step-by-step, make sure to sign up for my membership.

These are the pillows that I have and I've found that they're very easy to maintain. All I do is place two pillows at a time in the washer. I recently transitioned to cleaner products and use one scoop of Nellie's Laundry Soda to wash my pillows. I also like to fill the fabric softener...
