How I Wash My Pillows

A little while back I posted an Instagram story where I was washing my pillows and got quite a few messages about it, so I figured I'd do a short blog post on how I wash my pillows.

It's important to wash your pillows a couple of times a year because over time they will accumulate things like dirt, oil, dust mites, saliva, sweat and bacteria. I wash our pillows every 4 months. In my Clear the Clutter Membership I share my entire cleaning and home maintenance schedule and explain how I keep track of everything that needs to get done around the house. If you're interested in learning more about that and how to declutter and organize your entire home step-by-step, make sure to sign up for my membership.

These are the pillows that I have and I've found that they're very easy to maintain. All I do is place two pillows at a time in the washer. I recently transitioned to cleaner products and use one scoop of Nellie's Laundry Soda to wash my pillows. I also like to fill the fabric softener compartment with 1/4 cup of white vinegar. I find that vinegar works great as a fabric softener. It also keeps my machine clean and nothing comes out smelling like vinegar. You can add a few drops of essential oils to the detergent or vinegar if you'd like to add a scent. I then run the machine on the normal setting. Once that's done I do an extra rinse cycle, followed by an extra spin cycle to get as much water out of the pillows as possible. I'll then dry them in the dryer on the normal setting with wool dryer balls.

If you have down or memory foam pillows, make sure to look up the washing instructions for those. Once my pillows are dry, I place pillow protectors on them to help prolong the life of my pillows. I then cover them with a pillowcase and make my bed as usual. If you want to know how I make my bed, watch this video.

I while ago I revamped my entire laundry system and I am still loving the change. If you'd like to know more about how I've made doing laundry so much easier for my family of 6, watch my latest YouTube video:

You'll probably also find this video useful if you'd like to know how I keep my mattress dust mite-free. Alright, I think that's more than enough laundry info for one day, comment down below if you have any questions.
