My NEW Dermatologist Recommended Morning Skincare Routine

A few months ago I updated my skincare routine and when I tell you where I got these skincare recommendations from, you’re probably going to stop reading this post. But please, DON’T! Give it a chance, I promise you won’t regret it.

The skincare advice that I’ve tested out for months now, came from TikTok! If you’re already on TikTok then you’ve probably seen these videos. They’re made by dermatologists and they’re awesome! They’re quick, to the point and they tell you what products you should and shouldn’t use. The way TikTok works is, the more you watch a certain type of video, the more similar ones get recommended to you. Since I was watching these skincare ones so much, I kept seeing more and more of them. I started to notice that a lot of these dermatologists were recommending the same products. They were also recommending a lot of drugstore products that are clean and don’t contain toxic chemicals and fragrances.

Anyway, as I finished the skincare products I was using, I’d replace them with one of their recommendations. I’ve been able to switch from expensive high-end products to drugstore brands and my skin looks just as good, if not better than when I was using the more expensive brands. Now that you know how and why I updated my skincare routine, let me explain the exact routine I follow every morning.

Step 1: Cleanse

The first thing I do is wash my face with CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser. I have combination skin, but it is a little on the dryer side, so I love that this cleanser is hydrating. Three times a week I'll use my Clarisonic when cleansing, but you might want to consider getting a Foreo instead since the Clarisonic has been discontinued.

Step 2:  Eye cream

Next, I apply an eye cream. I'm currently using The Ordinary Caffeine Solution, but I don't love it. I have dark undereye circles and thought this product would help, but it hasn't brightened that area. Nevertheless, I still like using an eye cream or serum just to keep that delicate area hydrated and hopefully prevent wrinkles. I have tried a ton of eye creams for dark circles, but none have truly made a difference. If you've found something that works, please let me know in the comments!

Step 3:  Vitamin C

I’ll then apply a vitamin C serum. I really wanted to try a CeraVe one, which was highly recommended. But I’m having trouble finding it in Canada, so I got this one instead. I have to admit that I am noticing that my skin is brighter and my skin tone is more even since I started using a vitamin C serum.

Step 4: Moisturize

Once the vitamin C has absorbed into my skin I’ll apply some La Roche-Posay sunscreen. I use SPF every day, even if I don’t go outside because even the lights, computer screen and light coming in through the windows can damage your skin. So I never skip this step. Also, SPF often leaves a greyish cast on darker skin tones. I love this one because it doesn’t do that.

If I’m staying home then that’s all I do. If I’m going out, I’ll apply my makeup. All of these products have become my new favourites and if I didn’t love them, I wouldn’t be recommending them. Just like my Spark Joy series, I only share must-have products that I absolutely love. Watch my latest Spark Joy video if you want to know what three items are current must-haves for me.

In my next blog post I’ll be sharing my new nighttime skincare routine, so make sure to subscribe to my blog so that you’ll know when it’s posted. If you don’t already have a skincare routine that’s working for you, give this one a shot, I really think you’ll like it!
