How to Clean Shower Grout Stains

Jan 23, 2020

Keeping the grout between your shower tiles clean can be difficult, especially if you don't do it regularly. Here's what you can do to remove the stains depending on how stubborn they are.

Step 1: Vinegar

Spray the tiles and grout with white vinegar and scrub the area using a grout brush or a toothbrush.

Step 2: Baking Soda

Make a paste with some baking soda and water. Apply this paste to the grout and scrub again.

Step 3: More Vinegar

Spray the area with more vinegar and allow it to bubble. Then continue to scrub with a grout brush or toothbrush.

Step 4: Hydrogen Peroxide

If the grout is still stained, spray it with hydrogen peroxide

Step 5: Toilet Bowl Cleaner

I learned this tip from the YouTube channel Do It On A Dime. This will only be necessary if you have very stubborn stains. Apply a toilet bowl cleaner with bleach to the grout and allow it to sit for a few hours. You can also spray the grout with chlorine bleach. Make sure your bathroom fan is on and try...

Decluttering 101: How to know whether to keep it or toss it

Jan 16, 2020

In order to have an organized home, decluttering is an essential step. But it can be a difficult process because there are many reasons why we feel we need to hold on to stuff. We might feel guilty because of the money that we spent on the item. Or perhaps it was given to us as a gift and therefore we feel like we have to keep it. We'll tell ourselves that we may be able to use it one day or that we'll eventually sell it. Unfortunately, this is why most attempts to get organized end up failing, you simply cannot organize clutter. Here's what you can do to help you with the decluttering process.

Remove everything

When decluttering, it's important to remove everything from the closets, drawers and cupboards so that you can see everything that you have. You also want to be able to hold every piece when deciding what to do with it.  If you're planning to declutter your clothing, then make a big pile of all of your clothes on your bed or on the floor. If you're decluttering books,...

3 Furniture Pieces that Weren't Ideal for My Small Space

Jan 09, 2020

I've been living in a small space for almost two decades now, so I've learned which furniture pieces work well in a small space and which ones aren't the greatest. Whenever I chose furniture I did try to choose pieces that were space-saving or had some kind of storage element, but it still didn't always work out as planned. Today I wanted to share which pieces weren't the best so that you don't make the same mistakes I did.

1. Folding table

This table could work in some small spaces, but it's not ideal for all small spaces. This table is from Ikea and it's great because it doesn't have a large footprint, yet when it's open, it provides a large tabletop. There are also small drawers that provide extra storage. The problem with this table is that it's very heavy, so you can't move it around. When you live in a small space, it's nice to have furniture that can easily be moved. So what we ended up doing was we put the table on casters so that we could roll it around. The issue with this...

5 Tips to Help You Maintain an Organized Living Room in a Small Space

Jan 02, 2020

If you have a small living room, it can be challenging to keep it organized. Our living room is also used as our playroom, home office and dining area, so we really had to be creative when planning it out. The following are some tips that will help you maintain an organized living room, especially in a small space.

1. The Coffee Table

We currently don’t have a coffee table in our living room because we have young children and it was proving to be more of a hazard than a useful piece of furniture. Instead, we have an open floor space with an extra-large yoga mat which is perfect for the kids to play on. The coffee table we had has been moved to our storage locker and we will bring it back once the kids are older. I love our coffee table because it’s dual purpose. It can open up and be used to store items. Also, the tabletop can be used as a coffee table or it can be brought up and works great as a desk or place to eat dinner while sitting on the couch. So when choosing a...

How to Organize Any Space in 7 Easy Steps

Dec 26, 2019

Whenever you organize a space, it’s essential to follow certain steps in order for it to be effective. If you don’t follow these steps, it’ll be harder to maintain and it’s doubtful that the space will remain organized. I will use a junk drawer as an example when explaining the steps.

Step 1: Remove Everything

Take everything out of the drawer and place it somewhere where you can sort through it. You can use a tabletop, counter, the floor or your bed. You will need some space to spread it all out. You must take everything out of the drawer, there’s no point trying to organize with things still in the drawer.

Step 2: Clean

Wipe down the drawer so that you have a clean space to store the items.

Step 3: Sort and Purge

You must now hold every item that you removed from your drawer and decide if it’s worth keeping. Only keep what you value. If you don’t love it or don’t use it often, it needs to go. You don’t want to keep everything...

Tips on Starting a YouTube Channel

Dec 19, 2019

I decided to stray a bit from my usual posts about organization and minimalism today because I’ve received quite a few messages asking for tips on starting a YouTube channel. Since I’m not a YouTube expert, I won’t be going into great detail about the technical aspects, but I will give you a few pointers to help you get started. I figured the best way to do this is by simply answering the questions that I’ve been asked.

1. How do you start a YouTube channel?

  • YouTube is owned by Google, so if you have a Google account (Gmail), you have a YouTube channel.
  • I suggest googling, “how to start YouTube” and you will find a ton of videos and blog posts that will explain it a lot better than I can.
  • Just start! Your first video won’t be great, but just keep at it and they will get better.

2. What do you use to edit your videos?

  • I use iMovie, which is video editing software that came on my MacBook Air.
  • I should mention that I have an...

Make-Ahead Freezer Smoothie Packs

Dec 05, 2019

I've been so busy lately that I don't have time to make myself a proper meal for breakfast. So what I've done in order to save myself some time and also eat something healthy, is prepare freezer smoothie packs ahead of time.

I like to use reusable freezer bags to store them because they're durable, space-saving and reusable. I don't measure, I just dump the following into each bag:

- frozen mixed berries

- banana

- chia seeds

- hemp hearts

- avocado

- spinach

- Vega

In the morning I simply dump the ingredients from one of these bags into my Vitamix, add a bit of milk and greek yogurt and blend. I'll then pour it into a tumbler or if I have time, which is rare, I'll make a smoothie bowl. Even baby Josh is a huge fan of this quick, healthy and delicious breakfast.

This week I explained how I organized my freezer on my YouTube channel. This method has been working out perfectly for us for the past few months, so I highly recommend that you check out this video:

Good luck getting...

What to Pack for a Planned C-Section: Hospital Bag Checklist

Nov 28, 2019

Planning what to pack in your hospital bag for a planned cesarean will be a little different than what you’d typically pack if you were to have a traditional delivery. I’ve had three scheduled cesareans, so I thought I’d share some checklists to help you get your hospital bag packed.

When you first get to the hospital, I recommend that you leave your suitcase in the car. You will be moving from a waiting room to an operating room and then a recovery room. So you won’t want to lug all of your luggage with you. All you need is a bag or backpack to hold things like your cellphone and your clothing. You will have to change out of your clothes and wear a hospital gown, so having a small bag for those items is useful. I also recommend that you wear socks and slippers. The operating room can be pretty cold, so it’s nice to have some socks on. You also want footwear that’s easy to remove, and that’s why I’d suggest house slippers. You...

5 Reasons Why Audiobooks Will Change Your Life

Nov 07, 2019

My husband and I recently developed an obsession with audiobooks and they have pretty much replaced our original forms of entertainment like watching Netflix or YouTube videos. People often tell me that they can’t listen to books, they need to actually see the words. I tried listening to books many years ago and felt the same way. But I’ve since realized that the issue wasn’t that I needed to see the words. The problem was that I hadn’t chosen the right books for me. In order for you to enjoy audiobooks, it’s essential that you pick topics that you’re interested in. Lately, I’ve been wanting to learn about social media, marketing, minimalism and parenting. Choosing books related to these topics made it very easy for me to listen to them and retain the information.

Here are 5 reasons why you should consider listening to audiobooks.

1. Great Use of Time

We’re all tight on time and can rarely find a minute to sit down and crack open a...

5 Reasons Why Routines Are Important

Oct 24, 2019

When it comes to keeping your family organized, it’s important to have routines. I’ve been an elementary school teacher for many years and routines are essential in our classrooms. Here’s a list of reasons why you should consider implementing routines at home.

1. Save Time

When you have routines in place, everyone knows what’s suppose to happen next and time isn’t wasted trying to figure out what should be done. As long as you stick to your routines everything will eventually start to flow, which will result in a more efficient schedule.

2. Develop Good Habits

If you do something every single day, it will soon become a habit and will no longer feel like a chore. For example, making your bed every day or teaching your kids to brush their teeth every night before bed will ensure that it becomes a habit. You will then naturally incorporate these tasks into your regular schedule.

3. Accomplish More

By having routines you’ll make sure that you schedule...
