I didn’t always make it a priority to make my bed. If I managed to fit it into my busy schedule, great! If not, it didn’t really bother me. For the past few months, I’ve made a conscious effort to make all of the beds in our home as soon as my daughter Isha and my son Kian are off to school. Obviously, since I’m on maternity leave I’m not in a rush in the morning and can manage to do this. Hopefully, when I return to work I can continue to include making all of the beds in my morning routine because I’ve noticed a lot of benefits.
On most days I quickly make my bed and don't lay out all of the decorative pillows. But when I have more time, I do like to make it so it looks like a luxury hotel bed. Learn how I do this and how I keep all of my linens white in this video.
The beds take up so much space in our small condo, making them instantly makes our condo look much tidier. Since we don’t have a second...
After having my first baby in 2014, we planned a family trip to Mauritius when she was 6 months old. Isha was a colicky baby and though this phase had passed, I was still nervous about flying with her and disrupting the other passengers. Before I had children, I always dreaded having a screaming child near me on a flight. Now that I'm a mother of 3, I feel for those parents and know that they're dreading the flight ten times more than I was!
When we were planning our trip, I told a friend that I was nervous about the flight and she mentioned seeing something online about parents handing out goody bags to passengers that included earplugs and some candies with a note explaining that it was their child's first flight. I loved the idea and decided to research it. Well, it turns out that people had both positive and negative things to say about this. Some people thought it was a nice gesture, others thought it was unnecessary and parents shouldn't have to apologize for flying with a...
My husband and I recently developed an obsession with audiobooks and they have pretty much replaced our original forms of entertainment like watching Netflix or YouTube videos. People often tell me that they can’t listen to books, they need to actually see the words. I tried listening to books many years ago and felt the same way. But I’ve since realized that the issue wasn’t that I needed to see the words. The problem was that I hadn’t chosen the right books for me. In order for you to enjoy audiobooks, it’s essential that you pick topics that you’re interested in. Lately, I’ve been wanting to learn about social media, marketing, minimalism and parenting. Choosing books related to these topics made it very easy for me to listen to them and retain the information.
Here are 5 reasons why you should consider listening to audiobooks.
We’re all tight on time and can rarely find a minute to sit down and crack open a...
If you’ve been following me for a while you know that I’m working towards becoming a minimalist. Therefore, I’m constantly getting rid of things we don’t love or use regularly. The playroom is one of the areas that is likely to get cluttered very quickly. You really have to stay on top of it and continuously purge items that aren’t being used if you don’t want it to get out of control. I’ve done numerous playroom purges and thought I’d share the top 5 items we love having in our playroom.
Technically we don’t have a designated playroom since we live in a small condo. Our living room is our playroom and so is part of my kids' bedroom. If you want to know more about how I organized our playroom/living room/kids bedroom, check out this video.
Now here are the top 5 must-haves for our playroom:
We love this table so much that we now have two of them in our condo. We don’t have...
When it comes to keeping your family organized, it’s important to have routines. I’ve been an elementary school teacher for many years and routines are essential in our classrooms. Here’s a list of reasons why you should consider implementing routines at home.
When you have routines in place, everyone knows what’s suppose to happen next and time isn’t wasted trying to figure out what should be done. As long as you stick to your routines everything will eventually start to flow, which will result in a more efficient schedule.
If you do something every single day, it will soon become a habit and will no longer feel like a chore. For example, making your bed every day or teaching your kids to brush their teeth every night before bed will ensure that it becomes a habit. You will then naturally incorporate these tasks into your regular schedule.
By having routines you’ll make sure that you schedule...
Donating the majority of my clothes and creating a capsule wardrobe has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I can’t even think of anything negative about having a capsule wardrobe and if it’s something you’ve been debating, stop thinking about it and do it!
I could probably list a hundred reasons why everyone should have a capsule wardrobe, but since I’m working on being minimal in most aspects of my life, I’ll do the same with this blog post and only list my top 5 reasons why.
The greatest benefit of having a capsule wardrobe is that you will save a ton of time. You will love everything in your closet and everything will coordinate, so you won’t waste time trying to figure out what to wear. Anything you grab will look great! You also won’t waste time doing a ton of laundry or spend hours folding and ironing.
In this video, I shared some tips on how to look good in less time. Having a capsule wardrobe was one of...
Is your family expanding and you’re starting to run out of space? Or have you recently moved to a smaller space and can’t give every child their own bedroom? Well, you don’t have to. It’s very easy to create a shared bedroom and there are quite a few benefits of doing so.
It’s more comforting, especially for younger children. They will feel a sense of security when going to bed at night if they have a sibling in the room with them.
They learn to sleep more soundly even though their sibling might be making noise. As I’m typing this, my son is currently babbling and singing to himself in bed and my daughter is sound asleep. She has learned to fall asleep, even when there might be other distractions.
It builds a bond and encourages children to communicate with one another. We often hear our kids talking and playing with each other in their shared bedroom....
I’ve always had a small kitchen and over the years, I’ve tried out quite a few small appliances. Since my space is so limited, I couldn't keep all of them. Today I thought I’d share which ones have been worth keeping. I should also mention that this blog post is not sponsored, I genuinely use all of these appliances regularly and think they’re worth having, even in a tiny kitchen.
My husband and I use this machine every single day. I have a latte and he has an Americano. We have the original version - Lattissima. We love it because the coffee tastes amazing. Sipping on a cappuccino from this machine reminds us of a trip we took to Italy when we first got married. We had some of the best cappuccinos there and now we can have them at home every single day.
This is a fairly new discovery for me, but I know it’s here to stay. I got rid of my toaster oven and replaced it with an air fryer. Not only does this machine make...
When I was pregnant with my first child, friends, family and coworkers often told me that we’d have to move to the suburbs and buy a house. I was warned that babies have a lot of stuff and I’d need space for all of this stuff. My husband and I didn’t want to move to the suburbs, so we decided to see if we could make it work in a small space.
These people were right, it is nice to have things like an exersaucer or swing for the baby and these things do take up quite a bit of space. But we realized that this is only temporary. They only use those bulky items for a few months, then you can put them in storage, sell or donate them.
We’re often asked how we manage to live in a condo with three kids and to be honest, it’s not that difficult and there are a lot of advantages to it. I believe that the number one reason why we’re capable of doing it, is because we were willing to declutter. We try very hard to only keep...
Did you know that there are specific areas in your fridge where you should store certain items? And if you organize it correctly, you’ll prolong the freshness of your food.
This is where you want to store things like leftovers, ready-made foods, drinks and herbs because this area has the most consistent temperature.
The lower shelves maintain the coldest temperature, so this is where you’d want to store things like eggs, seafood, dairy and raw meat.
This is the perfect place for condiments, juices and water. You don’t want to store dairy and eggs in the doors because this is the warmest part of the fridge. Foods that can handle fluctuations in temperature will do well here.
This is where you should keep your fruits and veggies, just make sure you keep them separate. There’s a scientific reason why they should be kept separate, but I don’t want to put you to...
